Reunion

Fried Hokkien Noodles (RM26.80)

Deep-fried Yam Puff (RM6.80)

Siu Mai (RM7.80)

Vietnamese Egg Roll (RM8.80)

Deep-fried Glutinous Dumpling (RM6.80)

BBQ Pork Puff (RM15.60)

Pu Er Tea (RM15.20 for 3)

The reflective façade, the contemporary oriental interior, the Delicious food; it was all about quiet, dark sublimity. Reunion has definitely brought another dimension to dim sums; refinement. There was the impeccable BBQ Pork Puff glazed to shiny, syrupy goodness and the inclusion of slices of century egg and ginger in the Vietnamese Roll. The batter of the deep-fried dishes was crisply light and aromatic. Every made-to-order (I believe) serving of dim sum was well-detailed with the essentials (note the Chives Dumpling), hence the rich flavours. Lard galore in the plate of Hokkien Mee, their signature dish. Nothing can go wrong when you combine the aroma and smoothness of molten lard with fresh, salty chilli paste, strands of egg noodle and sweet, dark soy sauce. It was definitely above average, almost on the verge of championing the Hokkien Mee of 2009 (for me) but the lack of wok hei and sweet taste of fried shallot pulled it down a notch. Nevertheless, it was still very much wonderful. Prices are equivalent to those of hotels and fine-dines. But to indulge in a weekend of holy lardness and refined dim sum is a getaway we should offer ourselves, once in awhile.

it seems like the dim sums are all in its shiny glory..is it the light or is it the oil? haha

My favorite of them all is the Fried Hokkien Noodles. That's always not getting enough of the tai loke mee for me.

foodbin said...

the prices are premium-like the peanuts and lotus root as appetizers

J2Kfm said...

wait, they served those lards separately?
that's insane. i would've picked all of those b4 the others can even scoop the noodles onto their bowls! :)

Selba said...

The food looks yummy.... but why I feel like looking at oily brown worms at the fried hokkien noodles pic? Hehehe....

Ooo, didn't notice there's such a restaurant in Bangsar Village. Nice one, and the food look good too, but a little expensive.

i simply love char siew sou, it's a must order everytime i eat dim sum, unless the restaurant don't have. haha

Whuah the fried hokkien mee looks garang! Price also garang! Ah sigh...still looking for a truly nice one in Singapore.

Love the dim sum photos too.

And I see "harm soei gok"! =)

Oh my lard, what a meal. I agree with you about the Hokkien mee. Otherwise it is surprisingly good. Although perhaps bit heavy handed with the msg sometimes.

snow white, mee too!! opps, i mean, me too. see lar, this is what hokkien mee does to me. hehehe...thanks for the compliment on the piccie. oh, the fine lines tasted refined la. and that's rare, me thinks. ;D

kenny, smokin' holy lardness that day, i tell ya..haha! well, come to singapore on weekends and we shall have our first babitarian AGM! i am still lol-ing on the sites that keropokman showed us. yupe, the ones with "babitarian" as a keyword! haha!

kampungboycitygal, shiny, lardy goodness! haha, actually, it was a mixture of both. ;D the lighting was bad, but thanks to the spotlight, i managed to get some light. as for the oil, hmmm, suprisingly, only the hokkien mee was oily.

ck lam, mine too, definitely! ;D i like my dai loke mee with some kway teow for the texture and the taste. it's extra tasty when it goes with the molten lard..hehe...sometimes, bee hoon fried this way is kinda nice too, me thinks.

foodbin, i hafta agree that the prices are premium. but then again, the quality of the food was good lah. i didnt really pay much attention to the appetizers cos by the time the hokkien mee was presented in front of us, i got mad..hehehehe...btw, the appetizers were pretty yummy as well. ;D

j2kfm, no lar dude. they were all nicely mixed into the hokkien mee. i separately some of em for photography purpose. heheheh...a pic of those crunchy bits is a stress reliever sometimes, me thinks. ;D of course, in the end, i sapu-ed them all la.. ;D *i think some ppl are going "OMG!" at this point...hehe*

selba, oily worms? omg! then must be really well-fed oily worms then..hehehe...i had the same thought when i was young as well. but after a bite, i guess they all turned out to be really yummy *insects* to me! ;D

julia, yes!!! ;D ;D i was thinking, hmmm, should i put your name instead of the glutinous dumpling...haha! it was smooth with a moist filling. quite different from the usually hum soei kok. good stuff! ;D

joe, eh, i thought you've been to reunion before? the hokkien mee is good, definitely. but not that really charred, dry type. still, good stuff. the dim sums are good as well. i havent tried their stir-fried dishes though. check it out! ;D

qwazymonkey, just read on your message board that you had some holy lardness at reunion! am glad you did and hope you liked it! cant wait to see your comics..hehehe...porky fun, i'm sure.

ai wei, yeah, i thought the name was pretty cool. very chinese and it goes well with the theme. the food is good definitely, but yeah, the prices here are rather high. but at times, i guess we just hafta pamper ourselves with some good food la. ;D

thenomadGourmand, no, i havent trued Oriental Spoon at Sooka Sentral. in fact, i've not been to sooka sentral as well! omg! heheheheh...i think it's halal dim sum there. shd be interesting la, i guess. you've tried that before? ;D

sugar bean, it's quite hard to notice that place, i agree. the first few times i went, i thought they were closed cos the main entrance is actually at the side of the restaurant. thank goodness there were posters! hehehe...

ladyironchef, did we order char siew sou when we were at hua ting? i forgot already, cos there was just so much food! and fun, of course..haha! for me, it's lor mai kai. hmmm, hokkien mee is a bonus! ;D

mimi, ohhh! i love those by the roadsides as well. my favourite stall (now closed d..so sad!) happen to be at the car park of the old pekeliling flats. and prices were so affordable back then..sigh...any good recommendation for hokkien mee? kepong area? ;D

fatboybakes, nope, it was actually a follow-up from the birthday brunch. and i should thank you guys/gals for bringing me there for my birthday. if not, it would have taken me a long time before i check out this place. read about their dinner as well. quite good, hor?

evan 이벤젤린, woah, thanks so much for the compliment!!! ;D nope, i am still using my kit lens. there's still no stock for the prime lens. almost 1 month after the release date already and the agents still say the same thing. argh!! opps, off topic d...haha! hey, if you happen to come to kl, i bring you to reunion! ;D

550ml jar of faith, haha! i think was thinking more of soft porn, where the climax actually comes in form of the spoonful of lard that crackle in the mouth as i munch. oh, the aroma, the smoothness....ok, i am officially craving for some holy lardness now!

camemberu, garang indeed! and i must check out that hokkien mee stall the BP gang went to as well! it looked fantastic la. and thanks for the compliment on the photos. the spotlight was really helpful..hehehe...yaya, julia's favourite is in the picture as well! hehehe...if this was facebook, i woulda tagged her already..haha!

paprika, the hokkien mee was slightly on the sweet side, wasnt it? and some of the old-skool cooks like it that way. with liver as well. oh, talk about msg, yeah, i remember gulping a few cups of pu er tea after the meal. hehehehehe...oh, the things we do for a delicious plate of hokkien mee. ;D

chaokar, i love it, love it, love it as well!!! ;D hey, that's thrice! hahaha! there's something about that aroma that no other oil can provide. ok, the cholestrol is higher as well. hehehee...but i hear chinese tea helps to lower the bad cholestrol. so, i choose to believe that! ;D
