Seoul Kool

There is a reason why people choose to work in the city.

Even at 9.30 pm, we were still able to secure the Set Meal A (S$34 nett, two pax), which consisted of a soup and a rice dish. For the soup, it was Chicken With Ginseng. The crunchy, chopped leeks gave the soup a nice zing. Stuffed with ingredients like glutinous rice and herbs, the chicken was a substantial meal by itself. The Bibimbap with pork was tasty, thanks to the sweet and salty gochujang. More namul would have been appreciated, though. There were refillable, complimentary starters as well. I thought the lotus root slices soaked in orange juice were refreshing. The mashed potato salad was good too. And there was the ubiquitous kimchi, the Korean achar.

Add another S$6 for two desserts to complete the meal. We had the Obak Creme Brulee, a pumpkin puree topped with caramelized sugar and Kimchi Mousse, based with a vanilla sponge and sandwiched between two pieces of ginger macaron. The creme brulee was mediocre while the kimchi mousse was, well, of an acquired taste. I will stick to my Coke.

That's the joy of working in the city. There is always a something waiting for you, come day or night; good food to prepare you for the OTs, a swanky club to destress on Ladies' Night or simply, a new movie when the schedule permits. The only thing you will wish for is another twenty four hours to a day.

if there was another 24 hrs a day, employers will surely ask for well, another 8-10 hrs of work from you? not much difference dont u think?

It is 'so cool' to work in the city right? This dinner reminds me of lotsa things, like the OT record that I have no intention to break. Haha...

Only just realized that Seoul Kool was the actual name of this joint! They're a courageous lot! My heart skipped a beat at the Kimchi Mousse... I know I probably couldn't bear the taste of it, but how cool does it look!

I was intrigued by the photo of the macaron with giant filling, until I read its name. Kimchee in a dessert??? Certainly a hard-to-acquire taste! Maybe someone will come up with achar ice-cream next...

Bibimbap looks tasty though!

I've gotten hooked onto kimchi ever since a korean friend gave me some of her homemade ones here. No wonder they can eat it every day. And it's lovely on a hot day.

No labour day holiday. No wesak day holiday. Bah! :(

That's a good thought. Or may be this is what they call blend into the surroundings.

Happy Labour Day!

selba, haha, no lar. i guess the city has more to offer in terms of food and entertainment. i mean, there's always something new around the corner. and that's fun! awwww, i'm sure you have other holidays as well. cheer up, ya!

joe, interesting perspective! well, when i wrote that, i was only thinking of what the extra hours could do for me. like a more relaxed dateline and more makan, of course..hehe

xiu long bao, then again, working in the city comes with a more expensive lifestyle la. in the industrial area where i work, S$2.50 will get me a HUGE plate of rice. ;P oh, that dinner sure reminds u of lotsa things. especially the good news that came the day after. ;D

cumi & ciki, omigosh, seoul provider. michael bolton! hahaha! havent heard that in years, yo! i think "seoul" will make anything good. seoul far seoul good? seoul fun? body and seoul? ;D

55oml jar of faith, well, i hafta agree that the kimchi mousse looks and sounds good. the concept is pretty cool actually. like a wasabi ice cream. less kimchi, more sugar and it'll taste better, i think.

camemberu, achar ice-cream? haha! well, it is certainly workable cos there's pineapple! ;D top it with some peanuts and dessicated coconut. i'll work, guess...hehe...and yeah, the bibimbap was yummy, thanks to the sauce! ;D

chaokar, cool! now i know the name of the soup in Korean! thanks so much for the info, dude! it is a substantial dish, i must say. had to struggle to finish the rice..hehe..what's machisoyoo ar? hehehe...

unkaleong, welcome, welcome to the little red spot! ;D sms-ed u my number already this morning. let me know la. we'll go makan and minum! we'll go for Singaporean food lar, instead of Korean..hehe

foodbin, thanks for the info, man! actually, i have been wanting to cook something with kimchi but just cant find the time! there's a jusco near my place, so i guess i'll get some there. ;D

tummythoz, LOLOLOLOL! *passing my Coke to you* the concept seemed interesting at first, but the taste, well, i think it should be more subdue la. or sweeter, at least.

bangsar-bAbE, hey, thanks for dropping by! i guess if the macarons are like caramel with a sprinking of sea salt, it's fine la. but spicy, sour, salty and sweet, omg, that's a bit too flavourful for me..haha!

mimi, exactly! luckily the creme brulee was not close to being as strange as the mousse. then again, it was not exciting either. well, at least it was appropriately sweet. hehehe..

allie, haha, think sweet/sour/salty/spicy all in one. as a dessert summore. hard to imagine, right? but i'm sure there are ppl who enjoy this la. so, to each his own lar, i guess.

ladyironchef, my away-from-civilisation area got nothing much. well, i've tried the shark meat noodle and some hawkerfares la. nothing much. hehe...glad that u've tried Korean food. it's very interesting and colourful, i must say. u liked it?

backstreetgluttons, i hafta agree that citygals are exciting from head to toe, and that oh-so-cool factor that some of them carry is oh-so-cool. but us men are greedy and curious. we want the best of everything. hence, we enjoy the tranquility of nature and the exciting city life. and good gals, wherever they may be. ;D

precious pea, happy labour day back at ya! ;D the dessert does look good, doesnt it? perhaps they have a legion of fans of that kimchi mousse la. for me, it was of an acquired taste, definitely..hehe

gfad, talking about kimchi, i lurve lurve lurve kimchi soup noodles! it's like a good alternative to our usual asam laksa! add some chilli powder for the kick. ohh, salivating as we speak. btw, you get more days off on Aidil-Fitri, right? ;D

alexander, happy labour day to you too! fantastic thought you've got there. yes, we do try to blend into the surroundings, especially when they promise a lifestyle that's vibrant and exciting. it makes life more interesting, definitely.

haha i love achar but it probably be weird to have achar ice cream. lol!

I'm not sure whether I like Korean food or not, i need to try out a few more times first (excuses to go eat nice food) :D

ling239, haha, i think they are trying for that sweet/salty/spicy/sweet flavours kua. ya lor, shocking, definitely. aiyoh, i hope i din ter-delete or anything liddat. let me go check. so ar, ling! ;D

evan 이벤젤린, LOL! they definitely scored on creativity. but taste-wise, errrm, quite acquired leh. hey, try making a sweet/savoury/sweet macaron lah, you macaron queen you! ;D

bossacafez said...

i did leh! salted caramel counted or not? :D

HairyBerry said...
