Banquet (revisited)

Fourth day of Chinese New Year.

Do we ever get enough auspicious wishes?
Or those indigestible prosperous dishes?
Overpriced dinners of Chinese fare?
Stocked-up unfresh meat to spare?

Stop.

I needed a break.
I craved for luxury in peace.
I wanted to know what I eat.
And the usual price of it...

Since Marmalade was closed
Banquet then, I supposed
An unconvincing first visit
I was doubtful, I admit...

Burgundy Cheek of Wagyu (RM69)
Cheek of marbled wagyu, stewed in full bodied red wine for 5 hours. The beef melts in your mouth. Finished in red wine reduction, and mashed potato flavoured with white truffles.

Soft, rich and sweet
A wonderous piece of meat
The words were real
It was the real deal...

I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. I absolutely loved it.

Tiramisu (RM18)
No description on the menu.

Thunderous amount of brandy
Rich layers of mascarpone
Soft as clouds you see
Sweet as her lips can be.

First bite. First bite. You had me at first bite.

I adored their Euro delights
But not their Asian rewrites
Bidding farewell to the magic
Recharged for more CNY bites...

If you like lard
You'll like their pasta
Duck lard, not babi
But tastes Mamamia!

Sadly not everything's
Mindblowingly orgasmic
You're a lucky young fella
You didn't need a heimlich

Okay I exaggerate
But can you blame me
When my carrot cake came
It was skinnier than a hippie

My expression was dark
My disappointment was clear
I had to adjourn
To Delicious to cheer

And there I found
A carrot cake so fine
But we're not talking 'bout Delicious
So I'm gonna stop this whine.

Sorry for getting carried away with the rhyming...but....you inspire me... ROFL

You know, I was supposed to drop by and read yet another of your lovely food reviews, but I am happily distracted by the lyricism of your creative delivery of the conventional "We went here, we ate this, it's rates XXX stars."

Gosh forbid, I do believe I come here for the poetry more than the food! Sacrilege, surely?

And of course, your lil lyrical friend who offers her own banter in meter, is a delightful accompaniment. Is she an appetizer or a dessert, I wonder?

Such glee I find in both of you. One day, I shall have the pleasure of dining with you two poets, if only to see them beautiful words twirl out of your lips as tasty morsels slip in...

Bliss in pairs.

The duck lard pasta was good but it has a rather strong taste to it. I think somewhere out there, someone should be serving the normal pork lard pasta which will be heavenly to me! Or is it already readily available?

jackson: yupe, give it a try...remember to not drive after that! hehe...joking lar..

joe: yeah, i thought so too...din really enjoy the asian dishes there but the cheek and dessert were great! it definitely came in pair! :)

lyrical lemongrass:

i tried the pasta
didn't like the flava
bland taste, not orgasmic
crunchy bits, not aromatic

i too had my share
of uninteresting asian fare
but my stars were bright
i chose something right

the carrot cake i took
so bland, i shook
the crumbling texture
not a good look

unlike your Delicious take
I prefer my Marmalade
Of wonderful texture and taste
an absolute gorgeous bake!

too bad, i'd say
closed on that day
give up? no way...
went again last saturday :)

no problem at all! pleasure's all mine! vice-versa, babe, vice-versa ;>

ling239: definitely! generous amount of brandy...nice texture too...but honestly, i still prefer alexis' version leh. has a nutty flavour!

kenny mah:
i'm glad that you enjoyed that little tease of mine. it's interesting to blend food and words together cos afterall, what is good food if it's not shared (in whichever comforting shapes or sizes).

Sacrilege, you say? not at all! you're being too kind. pleasure's all mine!

my lyrical friend is the truffle in the burgundy sauce. the source of flavour that could NOT do without. does that make me the cheek? or the pine nuts??

oh, definitely! but you will be disappointed to know my speech is way less eloquent compared to yours and hers. beautiful words i dare not say, but a decent joke, i can offer. let's work out a plan, i'd say!

team bsg: that lyrical lady sure is inspiring lar...hey, share is care. i wanna join in the eating too...hehe...

big boys oven: no lar, it was a gathering of 3 families! i was too indulged in my dishes that i forgot to snap other stuff..hehe...

jason: shear bliss, indeed! wah, if only i ordered a starter too, then it'll be a perfect threesome, hor?? hehe...

wmw: is hokkien mee acceptable? i think hokkien mee is DA best lard noodles/pasta in the world! no doubt! :)

ekeng: it didnt look appetising at first...i thought normal stuff lor...after the first bite, fu-yoh! really can get abit drunk one!

Oh shush! You're a poet! I say so, and you'll just have to accept the honour! LOL.

By the way, do go and continue your lil duet with LL on her blog. I'm dying to find out what happens next. There's a toad now! Urgles.
