Popeyes @ Changi Terminal 3

It'll be a long wait. Three months, to be exact. After being together for almost 9 years, it’s time for rejuvenation. Dead was your face. Stopped was your heart. Metallic cold was your body. I did not see you off but I've been thinking about you since our last meeting at the airport.

Tick.

Your sound never left me.

Crunch.

This was perhaps the only sound that took the pain away. For a good 15 minutes, at least. But what is time anymore when you are not around? The deep-fried, aromatic crunch was tranquilizing. And very much flavoured. It was hot too. But not spicy.

Was it just me or had the fries turned sad after you left. They were not as salty or crispy as they used to be. But I was wrong. It was just simply Cajun-ed. And that took me 2 weeks to realize. Time has definitely elapsed before me while I’m still at that very moment you left.

88:88:88

I’m envisioning the moment we’ll meet again. Before my birthday, they said. Whether it’ll be a joyful celebration or a solemn wake of our anniversary, it’ll not include the shrimp burger. Four fried shrimps sandwiched between buns, we have definitely reached deeper than that.

This space, cold. Just cold. And there’s the dampening weather. The bland coleslaw too.

The biscuit was more like a scone. Warm and flaky. With strawberry jam from Heinz to spread on. A newfoundland that took another 10 minutes of pain away.

THAT’S IT!

I need a newfoundland. Something to touch and hold while you are gone. This will not reach you (and I plan to keep it that way) but you should know that distance does not make the heart grow fonder. That’s old skool and scientifically unproven.

KC5102 is a ticket to ride to the newfoundland. I got it yesterday.

I’m sorry.

You take care.

Note 1:
Popeyes is an American fastfood chain famed for its fried chicken. Unlike KFC, it offers only the breaded type. Both are equally crispy and delicious but good old Colonel Sanders edged Popeye (unrelated to Olive’s boyfriend) by adding a touch of heat to their Hot And Spicy label.

Note 2:
2 pieces chicken combo (Medium) with biscuit, Cajun fries and soft drink – S$7.40
Shrimp sandwich combo (Medium) with Cajun fries and soft drink – S$7.90
Coleslaw (Regular) – S$2.00

Note 3:
This post is not about human relationships.

I can't STAND this.

Cus I know who you are referring to. Anyway, I remember when I sent it off, it was really ok, no worries. It has recovered a little but they said it should still stay for another 3 mths.

And no way you are going to find a replacement in your newfoundland. How could you do this to someone who has been with you for 9 yrs???

selba, oh, no biscuit? i am wondering if the fried chicken is the same. do you like it? or you prefer kfc? ;) me likes kfc! hehe

joe, haha, very interesting thought! though it was about something else, but yeah, the fried chicken thingy makes sense lar! kewl!

jasmine, ohhh, so you are a *crunch* fan as well, eh? kewl! with this kinda chilly weather, a piece of fried chicken would be nice, eh? ;)

xiu long bao, why you cant stand? then sit lor. ;P hahahaha!

Always treasure the relationship that we had and having. Tolerence and patient may be a few things we must have, but I do wish you the best on your new journey of love and life, we always here to lend a ear! :) take good care of yourself mate!

they will name anything everything, just that they forgot bout some green transformer thing near the triceps this time. still, the name is a little bit unromantic, thus the brisk parting will not be felt strong , probably a knee jerk so no worries

Ooo... thx to that conversation we had, i now know what 88:88:88 is... wish i could hit that sometimes, when the day turns sour.. haha !!!

tummythoz, hahaha!!! actually, i thought note 3 would add a touch of humour to this rather solemn post...nothing more, nothing less... ;) *taking the pipe from you and replacing it with a crispy drumstick from popeyes*..hehehe...

live2talk, thanks, sweetie! u da bomb! ;) yupe, the fried chick was tasty. but i still the finger lickin' good one! good old KFC! ;)

lyrical lemongrass, no lar, loyalty is still the way to go. then again, i did move on by finding a temporary replacement..hehe...so, you like my replacement or not??? hehe...

ck lam, oh yeah! at first, i didnt know what the jam was for. crazy, right? haha! well, the heinz jam was definitely a good choice. hmmm, i wonder if they have butter as well! ;)

mimi, aiyoh, no lar..haha! but i think bkk is ok already now. i lurve that place! ;) yeah, the biscuit reminded me so much of the scone! except that the buttery taste is not so distinct here. still nice! ;)

bigboysoven, yes, i agree. tolerance, patience and understanding are some of the virtues that we should always bear. as the world turns more and more chaotic, i believe it is our duty to as least keep peace within ourselves and with the people around us. it'll make living in this world of ours more worthwhile. here's wishing u success in your career! ;)

backstreetgluttons, that is the best, most humourous and cool statement! but sometimes, transformers with a cool stereo sound, 20 deg C romantic air-con and fully leathered seats are kinda lovey dovey! hehehe...and agree, knowing that a knee jerk will be healed given a good span of time, this popeye is a great consolation. ;)

cumi & ciki, yupe, yupe! it's like a warp that will lead us to a place where time stands still, and worries are far behind us. very much like any haruki murakami books! ;) ohhh, hope you enjoyed kafka on the shore!!! ;)

kenny, hehehe....note 3 was a humourous ending for me lah..haha! actually, it's true. THE partner is not a person. it's an object very close to my heart...errmmm, well, my hand, to be honest... ;)

faye fly, ya lor. i also thought it was named after the cartoon character. apparently, it was named after a french detective but i forgot about the details already..hehe...the important this is, the chicken's yummy! i like! ;

fatboybakes said...

no spinach ah? the fries looked a bit sad, as if bashed by brutus....
guffaw, only you can make a post about fast food sound like an exotic meal from....an exotic place.

J2Kfm said...

hahah ... NOT about human relationship?

good one. :)

never heard of, never tried Popeye's. but the fries looked OK enough, Cajun some more.

HairyBerry said...

fatboybakes, exotic place? hehehehehe....yeah, didnt really like the fries cos it lacked that potato ummphh, me thinks. woah, thanks for the compliment again lar, dude.

j2kfm, yupe, yupe, definitely not about human relationship! yay! ;)

the chicken is good, like KFC minus the spicy part. but the cajun-ed fries were definitely not my thing lar..hehe
